Fasting, it’s all the rage right? Intermittent fasting, days of fasting, weeks of fasting - this strategy runs the gamut. And we get asked about it all the time! So we brought on the Living’ La Vida Low Carb Man himself, Mr. Jimmy Moore to break it down for us. How long, who can benefit – and you can bet Dr Brooke chimed in with her two cents (ok probably more than two…) about who this strategy may not be the best for. Learn more about employing fasting, what supplements and lifestyle choices can help should you decide to fast. And fasting aside, Jimmy is a very fun guest with a great story of reclaiming his own health after being over 400 pounds.

When we started this podcast we wanted to talk about more than just hormones and going to the gym because women’s lives are so much bigger than all that. Today’s episode isn’t about lifting weights or not eating gluten or body image, it’s about money. But it does have a healthy, wellness spin because what’s a bigger source of stress than finances???? And women, let’s be real honest here: many of us aren’t all that great with money.

Today’s guest tells us why women struggle in this area, how they can do better and helps us see that we never really “learned money” – and we should! Krisstina Wise joins us today and tells her story of balancing money and health and why investing in YOUR BODY is her number one suggestion for women to be truly wealthy.

Oh it’s a great one.

You asked and we answered! Today's episode kicks off with a great question about Bipolar and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. We talked about using medications with or without natural medicine, how these issues relate to thyroid disease and what genetic testing is super important here. We got asked a biggie: how do you actually quit foods that make you feel like garbage? You can bet we had a ton to say about that! And we fielded a belly fat question from a listener who is doing it all: grad school, single parenting and ultra-marathons. Whoa! We got tired from just reading her story! Tune in and hear all the good stuff.

The podcast can officially be over now cuz it's going to be hard to top this episode. OK this won't be the last episode - promise! But today we we have Dr Brooke's spirit animal: the one, the only, The KSD.

Krista Scott-Dixon (or Dr. Krista Scott-Dixon to be exact) joins Dr Brooke today to talk all about resiliency. How you get through stuff, how you grow, how you weather the storm, how you be all like a rubber band and get totally stretched to the max and somehow bounce back. Resiliency, heartiness and how you should spend your "care units".  We also talk about Grandma Ruby, who will quite possibly be your new hero.

In addition to being one of the smartest, sanest women in nutrition and training world, Krista has a knack for dropping these little zen bombs. I told my husband all I wanted for Christmas was to somehow be able to carry Krista around in my pocket. Listen and you'll see why.

Krista has an amazing blog at Stumptuous.com and she is a key team member at the incredible Precision Nutrition where she creates much of the training for the growing tribe of PN Coaches.

Baby rattle roll please…….it’s pre and post-pregnancy expert and fellow GGS Advisory Board member: Jessie Mundell! There’s so much to love about this lady but perhaps most of all is her down to earth, don’t stress about it, never losing her mind sensibilities about training and motherhood. While Jessie is an expert at helping moms get healthy and fit before, during and after pregnancy (you can follow her own mommy shenanigans here) and we do touch on pelvic floor and abdominal separation healing in this episode (way more on on this topic in episode #6), today we focused on all the other pregnancy "stuff".  We share our birth stories ranging from home birth to medicated hospital delivery to emergency C-section and we dive into the stuff your girlfriends seem to forget to tell you about like the myriad of concerns with using the bathroom after delivery, what you REALLY need to bring to the hospital and how to handle the “fourth trimester” of no sleep, a unique blend of terror and bliss and getting back to exercise – and hear how poor Jessie managed to nurse and care for a newborn with an IV in her arm for an infected C section scar! The range of normal in pregnancy, delivery and motherhood is HUGE! We hope this episode helps moms to be and new moms feel better prepared for what lies ahead and seasoned moms relive those magical, crazy experiences of delivery and baby-hood.

Author, blogger, lifter of heavy things, kitchen goddess and all around super cool chick (like did roller derby cool) is our guest and it was one of our favorite episodes to record. Parenting, is there anything harder? As mothers we're judged on everything from what we feed our kids to where we send them to school. We are under the microscope for our choices on how to nurture, discipline and guide our children. Like most mothers, both Sarah and Dr Brooke have been praised and criticized for the choices they've made with their families. In this episode we pull the curtain way back and show you exactly what is important to use when it comes to our kids. With Sarah homeschooling her boys in Northern California and Dr Brooke raising her girls in New York City we have some shared perspectives but very different experiences - and we on totally different ends of the mothering experience. Sarah has been a mother for twenty years and Dr Brooke is pretty much at the starting gate with two toddlers. And maybe, just maybe, there will be an arranged marriage between Sarah's youngest and Dr Brooke's oldest...stay tuned.
