This episode is in response to an email from a listener that thinks we’re way off the mark when we talk about weight loss and that we are far too immersed in diet culture. Interestingly, we actually feel nothing could be farther from the truth! We dive into how we really feel about the topic of weight loss, all the trouble it brings up for women and how we can all do it better. This listener also proposed the answer to all the problems women have with body image and fat loss can be solved by simply eating intuitively. While we love the idea of intuitive eating in theory, we share why this can be almost impossible for most women to do when their hormones are deranged.  In this show we also reiterate our passion for helping women find what works for them and why we believe every single woman has the right to choose what’s right for her health, her weight, her body and her life right now – and it can all be done with love! You won’t want to miss this show.

In this episode we covered several unique aspects of both nutrition and exercise for PCOS. Perhaps most importantly that you have to honor your unique PCOS metabolism in addition to other hormonal imbalances such as cortisol, thyroid, etc.as you filter through any dietary and training advice. We also take a close look into PMDD – premenstrual dysphoric disorder – which is much more than just super bad PMS. This condition can be extremely difficult to live with and is often treated ineffectively with SSRIs. In this show we talk about the lesser discussed cause of this issue which is inflammation and how this impacts both serotonin and dopamine.

In this episode we answered a question about how to use omega 3 and omega 6 (evening primrose oil specifically) to treat menstrual cramps, what’s the most menses-friendly diet and what may be underlying your painful periods. And we’ve all had – or fear we’re about to have – that moment when we look in the mirror and barely recognize the woman looking back at us. What’s more stressful than this?? We talked about how to transition through the various stages in life, particularly the many phases of motherhood and how to reconnect and rediscover yourself – be who you are as we say. This topic included a lengthy list of the books we recommend on personal growth and happiness. Finally we answer the all too popular question: should you work out first thing in the morning on an empty stomach?
