Dr. Brooke Show

Amidst polarizing, conflicting, and often alarming health and hormone information, The Dr Brooke Show is a voice of sanity where a sensible and nuanced take is honored. Black-and-white thinking, complex daily routines, and hormone advice that get you lost in minutia are not welcome here, but you are. With your host Dr Brooke Kalanick, functional medicine doctor and female hormone expert, you’ll sift through the nonsense and get to what matters most for your hormones and your happiness. Deep dive with expert interviews as well as Dr. Brooke’s solo episodes will give you the solutions you need. Dr Brooke is a speaker, author, and unlike most online experts: still a doc in full-time practice working with real women every day. Like you, she is navigating the moving target that is female hormones through the years and trying to live life more like interval training vs. a marathon: work hard but also recover, learning when to have more grit or when to have more grace. Oh, and also trying not to give her kids too much to talk about in therapy someday. Her promise to you is at least one actionable takeaway from each episode to help you BETTER today. New episodes every Tuesday because a fresh take doesn’t have to happen on a Monday. Any day, any moment is a chance to heal a bit, love ourselves more, make a better choice, and just maybe change our lives. If this week’s topic isn’t for you, check past episodes and stay tuned for next week as a lot of ground is covered on this show! Whether you are 20 or 60, you deserve to understand how your hormones work and how you can feel your best.

In this episode, we are joined by internationally recognized mindfulness expert, author, speaker and professor - and one of those women that make you glow when you’re around her- Dr. Shauna Shapiro, PhD. She shares with us the incredible, practical and tangible mindfulness practices from her new book Good Morning, I Love You.

We also dove into the common, yet totally ineffective, coping mechanisms we all use such as shame and guilt and how the practice of building more self-esteem hasn’t actually helped us do or feel better in our lives and what we can do instead.

A favorite episode of ourse for sure, can’t wait to hear what you all think.

To learn more about Dr. Shapiro check out her website and RUN out and grab a copy of Good Morning, I Love You anywhere books are sold.

With the myriad of factors and providers when it comes to living with chronic health issues such as infections like Lyme Disease, autoimmunity of any type, heart health, cancer, diabetes, fall out from things like mold toxicity or other exposure, mental health issues, or longer standing hormonal issues such as hypothyroidism, peri and post menopause or even PCOS - wouldn’t it be nice to have some help? BCPAs (Board Certified Patient Advocates) are just that type of help. They can help you navigate various providers, organize your patient data and help you find other support like a functional medicine doctor. We had a BCPA, Adrienne Nolan-Smith join us for this insightful episode where we got educated on what a BCPA can do to help both patients and care-givers as well as a deep discussion on the state of health care and the wellness industry. Incredibly interesting - don’t miss this show!

No guest experts or gurus today. Nope, just a regular woman in the real world, a wife and a mother who has been part of our tribe, living our advice for nearly 3 years! Heather found us on social when we first teamed up and basically changed everything about how she was exercising and living for her hormones and Hashimoto’s as she adopted our 5 Pillars and 5 Habits. Her transformation has been so amazing to watch and she spills it all on this episode. Hands down one of our favorite episodes so far!
