Reunited and it feels so good! So many of you have mentioned that you miss the dynamic duo that was Sarah and Jason on the JASSAFIT podcast so we got the man himself on our show! Jason is best known for his AltShift Diet but has a passion for helping women go about their health and fitness with a more resilient, positive, healthy mindset. He also has a knack for making great analogies to drive home important points so you won’t want to miss this show as we know you’ll come away changed for the better.

It was such a joy to have Jason on the show and share his important work when it comes to mindset and body image BUT we’ve got even more for you: his book Body Beliefs is absolutely free on his site: AltShiftDiet.com. Grab your copy here.

For more about working with Dr Brooke at betterbydrbrooke.com and with Sarah at sarahfragoso.com (obviously). Oh and you can find Dr Brooke and Sarah on Instagram as well. Answering your questions in this show including how big a deal is it not to get a period after coming off the birth control pill and why your SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin) can stay elevated for years after taking the pill creating low free, active sex hormones across the board. We also had a great questions about drinking and how that correlates directly to low dopamine and sugar cravings. This is one reason why a Paleo, low carb, low sugar diet can be so helpful. And what do you do when some members of your family need to abstain from booze and sugar, but the rest need a little gluten free treat on occasion? Finally: low free testosterone a case of too many hormones or too little? While low testosterone in women is often due to stress or inflammation it can also be due to elevated SHBG. We dive into the mechanism of having low free testosterone and a high SHBG (this little protein was the star of the show!). This can be due to low insulin as a result of a low carb diet or hormone excess of some type (estrogen dominance, post pill, taking supplemental DHEA, etc.) but it’s almost always just seen as a deficiency. It’s important to see the big picture here rather than jumping to testosterone replacement. Good stuff in this show, don’t miss it!

Functional neurologist and guest of The Dr Oz Show, the lovely Trupti Gokani, MD joins us in this episode and it was amazing. Her unique blend of Ayurveda, Functional Medicine and neurology gives such cool insights into common issues so many of us suffer with including poor sleep, headaches, waning memory, anxiety and brain fog.

Neurological prescriptions are serious medications in most cases so we loved these alternative options for pain and brain health including when we may need to eat warm vs. cold foods, how anxiety can be the result of simple nutrient depletion and why we should all have a living, green plant by our computer.

Grab your copy of Dr. Gokani’s book The Mysterious Mind for more info on her beautiful blend of ancient healing and modern science.

As always you can find us with your questions at bettereverydaypodcast@gmail.com. And if you’re interested in getting on the waitlist for our upcoming book test groups email us as well! The response we’ve had to this group has been overwhelming so get on the list right away if you want in.

Can you join us in the Bahamas in October? Check out our retreat while there’s still spots available! We can’t wait to connect with you in person and in such an amazing location. Can you join us October 19-23, 2017??

First, thank you all so much for your support after last week’s tell all episode – we love you guys! In this episode we’re answering your questions which are always so good! We tackled a very big problem: what to do when you want to eat healthier and you want your family to eat healthier but they aren’t interested OR you and your partner are not on the same page when it comes to feeding your kids. This can be so hard and it takes time to get everyone on the same page but we offer several tools for tackling this problem that’s so worth solving. What’s more important than your health and the health of your family?!?

We also cover the benefits of testosterone as well as the downside to too much, particularly for women with PCOS who suffer with hypersensitivity to androgens as well as androgen excess. Testosterone certainly has benefits for healing, libido and strength but it’s also a great example of getting too much of a good thing. Finally give some great tips for choosing effective nutritional supplements, our favorite brands and why you shouldn’t be taking the same supplement regimen for an extended period of time.

Interested in getting early access to Dr Brooke’s PCOS program? Get more info and nab your spot on the waitlist here.

And if you’ve been on the fence about our upcoming Caribbean retreat now’s the time to book! The $300 off code THECOVE300 is good only until August 18th. Also, if you’ve been considering going and utilizing the payment plan option contact our sponsors at Retreats Unlimited to get that going as the sooner you book the smaller your payments can be. The date is quick approaching so check it out! We can’t wait to hang out with you and connect in person.

You’re sitting down right? As we’ve eluded to in the past few months there’s a lot going on over here! Professionally things are amazing with the book coming out and all and we’ve had so much support for our work and this podcast lately, it’s been just incredible! Thank you.

But as life tends to go, sometimes when one area is going great things can fall apart in another.

When we started working together we vowed to be the #antiguru and keep it very real for you. Yes we are the experts but we are also women just like you. We struggle, we fall down, we get up, we grow. We see no point it putting on a facade that everything is always perfect for us all the time – even if it looks that way on Instagram.

We are real women just like you – wives, mothers, business owners, sisters, friends and more. Thanks to our expertise we have a lot tools to handle life, our fitness and our health but sometimes things in our world get real messy too. Like you we want to run away from that, avoid it, distract ourselves and keep on truckin’. It’s human, it’s normal but we’ve both been very intentional about sitting with the pain, marinating in the hot water as we say in order to learn and grow from these tough times so that we can share our insights and new tools with you.

We can’t do that if we don’t share with you exactly what’s been going on, how we’ve messed it up, what’s working and what’s not. So this episode is a pull back of the ol’ curtain. In it we are raw and vulnerable and trust that our best service to you all is to show up imperfectly real and 100% honest during this messy time.

In this show we talk about how our thinking on self-care has evolved given recent events and what we think are the most important aspects of this key concept that has been boiled down to massages and manicures. We talk about how thinking positive may not always been the best way to learn the lesson and we share our fears and worries about our health and our relationships.

Grab a cup of tea or glass of wine and listen in, it’s about to get real.
