Christa is an inspiration. She is also a strength coach, gym owner, wife, mother and a woman who has suffered and endured every parent's biggest fear...the loss of a child.

In this episode Christa shares with us her experience of getting a fatal diagnosis of DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma) for her daughter Lea when she was just six years old. She bravely shared this experience on her blog and on social media and allowed us all to see the raw reality of her painful journey.

In this interview she shares with us how she coped, how she’s rebuilding, how it affected her marriage and the impact it’s had on the parenting of her other two daughters. We’re so grateful to Christa for joining us and reminding us to be more present with those we love, stay committed to our true priorities and remain grateful for what we have each day because life can change in a second. To learn more about Christa’s journey here, follow her on Instagram and to donate to Lea’s chapter of The Cure Starts Now click here.

The million dollar question right? Well it’s easier to answer than you may think. Despite whatever shiny new workout is dangled in front of your face, no matter what results your girlfriends have had, no matter what used to work for you in the past, you must be able to size up an exercise plan and see how it may work for YOUR unique hormonal landscape RIGHT NOW.

Luckily we have THE tool for you: the hormone hierarchy. We’ve touched on this framework in various shows but in this episode we dig way into how to utilize this tool when it comes to your training. This is the same structure we teach in our upcoming book Hangry, which is available for pre-order at all online book retailers! THANK YOU all so much for your support, we can’t wait to share this book with the women of the world.

On this episode we were joined by Dena Moes to talk about her new book which chronicles her family’s trip through India and Nepal called The Buddha Sat Right Here. Dena and her family uprooted their very American life with homework, play practice and soccer games for nine months of adventure in Southeast Asia. Here what she learned about herself and her family as well as her experience of the vivid contrast of self-care, maternal support and womanhood in the East vs. what we know in the West. This show a great conversation and extra special because Dena was Sarah’s midwife for her homebirth with her youngest son Rowan!

In this fourth mini-episode we break down the fourth habit in our 54321 framework and that’s at least 2 liters of water per day. We talk about the importance of this basic habit BUT we also give some great tips for making this habit happen in a way you enjoy! And if you’re a woman with insulin or cortisol issues you may find you lose that water as quickly as you drink it so we troubleshoot that for you as well (hint: electrolytes to the rescue!).

As we have in the preceding mini-episodes in this series we also touch on one of our 5 Pillars. In this show we talked about a biggie: Be Your Best Friend. One of the best tools for this is tuning into the tone of the voice in your head so we talk about how to do this and more tips to master this pillar.

As promised, here’s the link to more info on choosing a water filter that will meet your unique needs.

We’ll be back with one more mini episode on our last habit tomorrow but be sure you join us for our January Hangry B*tches group where we can help you better customize each of these 5 Habits. Details and registration here.

Jan 4, 2019

Last one! In this final episode of our mini-series on our 54321 framework of the 5 Habits from our upcoming book HANGRY we wrap it all up for you and go through this final aspect of the program: 1 daily commitment to REAL self-care.

We also cover our final pillar: Be Who You Are and talk about three tangible ways you can commit to real self-care with sleep, meditation and mindset every day.

It was our goal to give you some perspective for the New Year and help you lay a solid foundation for the months – and years – to come! Again, each of these 5 habits can and should be customized to your unique hormonal issues today and as they change throughout your lifetime, but implemented as is they give you a great place to start. If you’d like to have us help you customize this program don’t miss your chance to join us in our January Hangry B*tches group! Get registered here and save $50!

Happy new year!

Xo,

Sarah and Dr Brooke

We're back with habit #3 in our 54321 template which is 3 strength training sessions per week. These days it's way less unusual to see women lifting heavier weights and reaping the benefits of strength training but not only are not all women in the know about this life changing, hormone happy making, inflammatory lowering, anti-aging, confidence building habit BUT many are confused where to start or scared of getting hurt, feel worse when they exercise or their intense strength training is tanking their adrenals and thyroid. The strength training templates in our book aim to fix every one of those problems!

We dive into where to start if you're new to strength training and most importantly how to adjust your training to follow the hormone hierarchy in this episode. It's an important one so we hope you listen in and learn a ton. We also cover our third of our 5 Pillars: Full Engagement Living. So much valuable info in this one, don't miss it!

If you’d like to get even more tools for customizing this 54321 framework and find what works for you join us for our next live Hangry B*tches group starting Jan 16. Get registered here and find out how to save $50 on the program!
Jan 1, 2019

The second episode in this mini-series is about the second habit in our 54321 framework: 4 meals a day. There are fewer aspects to nutrition that need to be more customized than how many carbs to eat, what meals to eat them at and how many times a day you should eat in general. With some experts advocating lots of small frequent meals and others singing the praises of fasting and keto it’s hard to know what YOU should do. It all comes down to dealing with your most delicate hormonal issues first, starting with this framework and making adjustments that work for YOU.

In this show we talk about how to know which adjustments to make to this 4 meal a day starting place and we touch on our second pillar: Opt Out Of Overwhelm.

If you’d like to get even more tools for customizing this 54321 framework and find what works for you join us for our next live Hangry B*tches group starting Jan 16. Get registered here and find out how to save $50 on the program!

Jan 1, 2019

Happy New Year!!! While 2018 was a tough one for us in many ways we’re so excited to be kicking off 2019 with you all! We’re looking forward to our book release in June and wanted to help you start the New Year off right, with no fear, no panic to jump on a cleanse or detox, no doing anything that will hinder your hormones or happiness in the long run. Rather we want you to start 2019 with a solid foundation for joy and health so we’re doing a series of mini-episodes that breakdown our 5 Pillars and 5 Habits in more detail to help you better find what works for you this year!

We’ve talked about the 5 Pillars a lot but less so about our core, customizable 5 Habits that follow an easy to remember template of 54321. Our pillars and habits give you a very simple framework as a starting place and with these mini-episodes or joining us in our Hangry B*tches group you’ll learn to customize them to suit your unique metabolic and hormonal issues.

Join us in our next live group where we walk you through our entire program starting January 16! And save $50 if you pre-order our book – win-win!  Get details and registered here.

In this episode we talk about our first pillar: Finding and Commit to What Works For You and our first habit: take 5 walks per week.

Happy New Year!!

During this difficult time Sarah has also been helping a family member deal with a difficult diagnosis and major life transition. Whew! In this show we talk about how using the Five Pillars and our Twelve Tangible Tools have allowed her to find moments of real self-care in the midst of something so horrible.

In this episode we covered a topic we haven’t broached yet: progesterone dominance. Typically it’s estrogen dominance that’s a hormone trouble maker but you can also get too much of a good thing like progesterone as well. We cover the symptoms and causes of this less common issue. In this show we also tackled a very big issue: what do you do when your work or just your preference requires lots of social events and there’s always booze, gluten, diary, sugar and other foods you may feel better avoiding?

Talk about a special show! In this episode we had Sarah’s 14 year old son, Jaden, join us to talk about what it’s been like having parents so immersed in health and wellness as well as many issues facing teenagers today. Jaden gave a unique view into how to talk more effectively to our children about sensitive subjects and how often the answer to having better communication with our kids is simply respect. And of course we asked how he eats when he’s away from Sarah! All Paleo all the time? Find out! Warning: we did talk about some potentially sensitive subjects including sex, consent and dating especially given the current climate around sexual assault. Hope you enjoy it and we’ll likely be having him back it was so much fun!

In this episode we dove into paleo and AIP for autoimmune issues, where to start and how to transition to a broader range of foods in time. Most importantly we covered what to do if you don’t get better on these template diets! This of course took us to gut healing and why supplements may be necessary to get you to the next level as well as how often we need to “heal” our guts anyway. Finally we covered a lot of mindset strategies to make it work when you’re on a restricted diet temporarily or longer term, what deficiencies arise nutritionally and what to do about the psychological and emotional issues that come along with dieting – of any type.

Today was a very special episode with the lovely and inspiring Kim Schaper! Kim works with women to feel their best in their bodies and with their mindset. Her story is fascinating as she battled anorexia where she was down to about 70lbs and then through her recovery gained 100lbs – so she’s experienced it all. Kim is now a healthy, muscular strength coach that has gleaned lessons on all sides of the body image struggle. In this episode we covered what’s the same for Kim through all her phases, what’s been different and how maybe not to these extremes but we all see ourselves in Kim’s story. Tune into this episode that highlighted so many of our 5 Pillars and 12 Tangible Tools for those really tough moments. And learn Kim’s two favorite tools for grounding when you’re feeling anxious and your mind is spinning.

Q&A baby! In this episode we tackled a big question on perimenopause/menopause and inflammation/autoimmunity. We discussed how these immune changes and inflammation issues can interact with menopausal hormone decline and create a tough situation when it comes to fat loss, how symptomatic the menopausal transition is for you and your overall health and well-being. Next we had a question about facial hair, tough one huh ladies? We covered conditions such as PCOS and other hyperadnrogenism issues as well as the various androgens that may be involved (it’s more than just testosterone!) and why knowing which one can help you choose the right treatments. Join us won’t you?
